Blog Assignment #19 Tony Curtis

                          Tony Curtis


          Late last night, September 29, 2010, Tony Curtis died of cardiac arrest. He stared in major movies such as, "Some Like It Hot", "Sweet Smell of  Success", and "The Defiant One." He was also in among 100 movies, big and small roles. He died at the age of 85 from 1948-2010. He was at his Henderson, Nevada, home when he died. His Daughter, Jamie Lee Curtis, said "My father leaves behind a legacy of great performances in movies and in his paintings and assemblages.  He leaves behind children and their families who loved him and respected him and a wife and in-laws who were devoted to him. He also leaves behind fans all over the world."  


                  Tony Curtis was born on June 3, 1925, In Bernard Schwartz.  His mom's name was Helen, and his fathers name was Emanuel. His father was a tailor and their family lived in the back of Emanuel's shop. As a young child his mother beat him up and treated him badly. She was diagnosed with a mental illness, which Tony's brother Robert had. His brother Robert was later institutionalized. His parents could not feed Tony, so him and his little brother Julius where sent to an orphanage for months. Julius was later hit, and killed by a truck. 


                Tony was married six times, his first five wives he got divorced. When he died he left his last wife,  Jill Curtis a widow. His son Nicholas died at age 23 on April 2, 1994, of drug overdose.  Tony later comment to to the press saying, "As a father you don't recover from that. There isn't a moment at night that I don't remember him." His last wife was only 42 and stated that their age difference was not relevant. They meet at a restaurant in 1993, a year before Nicholas died, and got married in 1998. 


           Not only did he play in TV shows and movies, but he painted. He had a strong love for painting, and was really great at it. Also you can go to  Disney's Hollywood Studio to see his hand prints on the ground. His first film he started in was in 1949 in th classic Criss Cross.  He played in many movies and made many fans over his acting years. He, in fact, has played in so many movies I can't name them all, because I'd be here all day!


           When he stared in the movie "Some Like It Hot," he had a short relationship with his co-star Marilyn Monroe. The relationship was later called quites because they where both on different roads going different directions. He has left his wife and daughter his fortune and paintings. They, along with his fans, will greatly miss him. He lived a long and talented life, and will be missed dearly.

                           Barack Obama

        Born on August 14, 1961, Barack Hussein Obama the second became the first African American president of the United states. He assumed office on January 20, 2009 with his vice President Joe Biden. He graduated from Columbia University and Harvard Law school. He has been working his way up to president since 1981. Before he became president he worked his way up little by little, and finally earned the place as the President of The United States.

       He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, by his mother Stanley Ann Dunham and father Barack Obama Sir. Being born in Hawaii made Barack the first president of the united states to have been from Hawaii. Barack later recalled that his father looked nothing like the people around him. He said he had been pitch black, and is mother had been as white as milk. While in high school Barack later admitted his possession of drugs then, and said that was his biggest failure. After high school, in 1979, he moved out of Hawaii and into Los Angeles to attend Occidental College.

       In 1996, Barack was elected to become the Illinois Senator. He keep being re-elected, but finally in 2000, he lost. But in 2005-2008 he became senator once again. Alas, in November of 2008 he resigned from his seat as senator to take on the dream to become the president of the United States. By this point Barack was married to Michelle Robinson Obama an had two daughters Malia and Sasha. He fully announced his running for president in February 10, 2007.

      Many have been saying Barack Obama is Muslim, because he was raised Muslim. However Barack claims to be a Christian. Though many don't believe it, he has said it himself in interviews many times. In one news article it claims Barack Obama as Agnostic. Agnostic are people who don't know if a God or gods are real, but do not claim about a God or gods. While other go around saying that he is atheist. Atheist don't believe their is a God, and say they must see proof to believe.

     Though some people don't like the thing Obama is doing, we must pray for him. We must pray because the Bible says to pray for your leaders, it doesn't say to just pray for the ones you like. Obama is human, so es he will make some mistakes as president. Though being the president looks like an easy job, it is no where near that. Obama has to help with every little, and big thing that happens to the United States.

blog assignment #15: Africa/Storytelling

                        African Storytelling

1) What Debo has to do before school.

  

            Before I wake up and go to school I only have two chores, which are taking my dog out and making me bed, but what Debo does fascinates me so much. The first thing she does is goes out and sweeps the yard. Her yard is mostly dirt, so I'm thinking it is a harder job than sweeping the kitchen at my house. After sweeping she throws the dirt in a near by bush. She later then goes to get water from the well with her best friend. For the video it looks as though she walks really for from her house to the well. Boy, this makes me appreciate faucets more. With a bucket tied to a rope she gets water.

              After putting the water from a bucket to a bigger bucket she carries it on her head. Not only does she have to carry it on her head, but she also has to walk all the miles to get to the village. After seeing this video it makes me thankful for the little things I have. Though when my faucet is stuck on cold I'm glade I don't have to walk miles to get the water. I think Debo is going to be a very great women when she grows up.

2) How Marie Faye gets ready for school

        Every morning I get up and take my time doing everything. That's not what Marie Faye does, she works hard and fast. The first thing she does is get up and gets dressed. Her family doesn't have dressers, but the y do have suit cases in which they have their cloths in. She meets with her friend Mame, who is going to school as well. On the way to school, they walk, they joke around with each other. Just like we do with our friends. 

         After they have left the village they stop at a grain house. Then they take a dirt path, with cows on it, to school. I sure am happy to have a car, mainly because I live 20 minutes away from Bethany. This video helps me allot with not getting mad when my mom's old van's AC isn't working. Because at least I'm not walking in the heat or the freezing cold. I think it's amazing at how Marie Faye never complains.

3) Coumba shares how she prepares her meal

       Each day the women, where Coumba lives, have to prepare meals for their family. The three foods they mainly make are rice, vegetables, and fish. Before cooking the fish they must go to the well, get water, and clean the fish properly. Then they spice the fish up with a little seasoning. As they cook they joke around and play, and Coumba comment that the atmosphere is light in th kitchen. While the fish and vegetables cook they talk.

          When it's all done the rice is sorta ready to be eaten. Coumba says this because they don't really have a stove as we do. They have a black pan over fire in which they cook. But when it is done the familys sit around the table and enjoy their meal the women prepared. This video makes me thankful for my stove. I remember when my mom had to go outside and push buttons to turn the stove on. That still isn't as bad as what Coumba has to do. All in all I learned appreciation from these videos. That i plan to keep.

          Media Crossing the line

            
           Over the years Media has gone from bad to worse. When many celebrities are asked how they feel about the littlest things about them being on magazines they simply say, "It comes with the price of being famous." I wish I had a nickel for every time I heard that, then I'd be a million air. The paparazzi are wrong for swarming around people, famous or not. They have been miles away from the road of privacy for years. It aggravates me that they can get away with this, and sleep at night KNOWING they are ruining peoples lives. 


                In many stories you may say in magazines are mostly just half the truth. A while back Miley Cryus was eating french fries from McDonald's and the paparazzi claimed she was getting "fat." In my opinion that is crossing the line and is just slap that too much. In the media business they act as though privacy isn't in their dictionary, and I think it isn't in their dictionary. If someone famous gets arrested, say Lindsey Lohan, after  about two minutes its in the papers, Internet, and every body's cell phones. 


               Privacy is not respected in the media one bit. Back when Jon and Kate, from Jon and Kate plus 8, where still together rumors where that he was cheating. It's not fair that their kids have to see that on the computer, TV, and even in magazines. The media was all over them talking about them getting a divorce, long before they talked about one. Even though what Jon did was wrong, I don't think it was right to put it in magazines and what not. This just proves paparazzi will do anything and everything to get a story out. True or not.


               I'd for sure say we live in a media frenzied world. Everyone buying the magazines to read the gossip.The media just blows things up and make them bigger than they seem. Like when Miley Cyrus was wearing short shorts, not that I approve, they wear calling her bad things. You can walk out in the street and see girls with shorter shorts than Miley has. Girls who even wear shorter shorts than Miley start talking about how she went over the line with that. The only person who is going over the line is the media.


           The media are accountable for their actions. It's not like their hands accidental slip on the key board and starts "accidental" writing this stuff. They are accountable for their actions and they know it. I'm, again I say, still not sure how they sleep at night knowing all they have done. They turn good people into monsters. Before all the gossip and stories about Lindsey Lohan I think she was a pretty good actress and going in a good direction. Media makes money of off other people's sorrow.

1) How are the core values of American democracy incorporated in the Deceleration?
          
       The core values of the American democracy is incorporated in the Deceleration by not just how they lived life back when they signed it, but how we live life now as well. Like we have the right to be alive, to have liberty, justice, equality, and so much MUCH more.


2) What responsibilities does the government have to honoring these core values?What responsibilities do individual citizens have to preserve these core values? 


       The government has the responsibilities of honoring these core values are  when someone kills somebody to make them go throw a trial to see the incense or guiltiness of the killer. If someone doesn't get justice in that trial they can go through another trail to get justice. With the right to live, the government can't just come to our house and shot us, or anybody else, but people still do it. Individual citizens have to preserve these core values by not just shoting somebody, but still that doesn't always happen.


3) How might some or all of these core values be important to the preservation of a free and independent press?


      Some, or all, of these core values are important to the preservation of a free and independent press because when you are out on the street you have the freedom to just lift your hands and praise God. You also have the freedom to go to which church you want to, and be in which ever religion you want to without being put to death. With equality a man doctor and a woman doctor at the same level should get the same pay, though that hardly really happens.

      The responsibilities producers of information have to have these core values and their citizens when distributing information is the truth. Without the truth nothing but made up lies would be on the news. Lying is one of the many forms of gossip, like if someone just lies saying a man ate a dog in one bite, people would spread it and the lie would become gossip. Though many, like the "magazines", don't follow this act of truthfulness.

Blog Assignment #12-M.Antoinette

                      Marie Antoinette


     Marie Antoinette Josepha Johana was born November 2, 1755, in Vienna, Austria. She later died October 16, 1793, at age 37. She was said to be the youngest and prettiest daughter in the family. At only age 14 the Dauphin of France, Louis Auguste. After the death of Louis the fourth her husband became king of France, thus making her the queen. After seven loving years of marriage she had her first child/daughter, Marie Therese Charlotte, three more to come.(total of four children)  The French started to dis-like her, because of her Austrian heir.


        After years of being queen her and her family where accused of disguising information with, "the Enemy." On August 10, 1792, her and her family where arrested and imprisoned for suspicion of sharing information.  Finally on January  21, 1793, her husband was pleaded guilty and put to death by execution. During her last days of captivity she was treated very un-kindly. Someone murdered her best friend and put the head on a pike to stumble in front of the queen. They took her children away, and only the oldest, Marie Therese was the only to survive. 


       Finally on October 16, 1793, she joined her husband and three youngest children in death when she was executed. She was known to be a brave and hated queen of France. She had many quotes and one of my favorite is when she was being held in prison and said, "Courage! I have shown it for years; think you I shall lose it at the moment when my sufferings are to end?" I like this quote because it shows how brave she was about her last moments. My last favorite quote of hers is, "I was a queen, and you took away my crown; a wife, and you killed my husband; a mother, and you deprived me of my children. My blood alone remains: take it, but do not make me suffer long." That quote shows how little she was left with when she was killed. I think we can all look up to her bravery and how well she handled her sadness and loses.

     The undefeated boxing champion Floyd Maywather got angry at now ex-girlfriend and hit her a few months ago. In Las Vegas a couple of months ago Floyd Mayweather got angry at his ex-girlfriend, then hit, and threatened her life. Since he is so strong and a boxer the hit really hurt her and he is being charged with domestic violence. He later got free from a bailing of $3,000 dollars. I hope he learned his lesson in the short few months in jail.

    Early morning on a morning TV show on September 10, 2010 Dara Torres announced that she would go back to swimming. She told the interviewers that her heart and head where telling her, "Yeah let's go for it." After recent knee injury nobody thought she would be coming back. But look at her now, coming back better than ever. That shows what hard work, training, and practice can do. With the help of God she plans to go for the gold.

   During the Olympics in Beijing the US had a devastating lost against Brazil in Women's volleyball. When the US women's Olympic volleyball went to play in Beijing, China, against Brazil they didn't bring their A game a lost. Many of the US players went home in tears thinking it was their own fault. To soften their tears they got comfort from their silver metals they got. The US has never won a gold metal in volleyball and planed to win it this year, but fell through on that plan. They said they will practice super hard and go for the gold next time.

1) Rare Antelope Like Animal Found in Asia

     Earlier during the week local villagers caught what is known as "The Asian Unicorn." It goes by this because of how rare it is seen and how many in the species are left. Local villagers in Asia saw the "Antelope like thing" while hunting, and got ropes so they could get it. After getting the animal, later identified as the Saola, some of the people got curious and starting taking pictures. Finally when help came the poor animal had been traumatized and scared to death, literally. The death of the little guy is unfortunate, but if any are found they must alert the LAO for help as soon as possible.


2)Tropical Storm Karl becomes hurricane over Gulf

• Why- because it got stronger
• How- Through all the water it absorbed

     Us National Hurricane Center said that Tropical Storm Karl turned into a category one hurricane. They also said that it can and is getting stronger. Before hitting into Mexico and leaving more than 10,000 without electricity it got stronger. Though it is not as strong as the two category four hurricanes, hurricane Igor and  Julia. Hopefully Karl, along with the other two hurricanes, will just die down.

3) Missing Sailor found........In Sharks Body

• Why- The boat had a hole
• How- Two sailors where on a boat, it tipped over, they decided to swim to shoar, and where never seen again.

     Late last month on August 26, 2010, two sailors were on there boat when it tipped over. The two deiced it would be a good idea to swim to shoar in the shark infested water, which at the time was unknown. After trying to swim to the shoars of Bahamas beach the two where never seen again. After is friend finally got worried they didn't come in they all began a search. Then earlier today a shark was found and cut open. Inside the shark where pieces of the missing man.

• Why- The reasons are still unknown
• How- With a gun.

                      Early this morning a doctor at John's Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore was shot. The suspect is unnamed, but police have him held up in the hospital for questioning. They don't have any answers for how, or why the guy shot the doctor. The hospital is being evacuated, but nobody can leave without being searched for guns or weapons of any sort. Also the condition of the doctor is unknown as well. They will be posting more information as they get it.

2) Mother Gets in Rage About her Kids Bath!

• Why- Because her sister, Adriane Duley, gave her children a bath
• How- Suffocated the children, then dumped them in river

      Around a month ago a home in South Carolina wasn't such a home. After a young women's sister gave her children a bath she went in a rage kills two of her three children. One of the kids was only 18 months old, and the other 2 years old. She is being charged with suffocating two of her kids, and then dumping the bodies in a river. Her third child, age 2, is with her mother safe and alive. When interviewed her mom said, " My daughter had spun out like a crazy person , nothing that i had ever seen before."

3) 3 Three Months in Jail for Stealing Hotel Towels!

     Late last night a women tried to leave her Nigerian hotel with two towels. She either has to pay a small fine of $20 dollars, or go to jail for three months. Though it seems like a big thing for just towels, every day, hour, things are being stolen and costing hotels millions. Now, I'm not talking just little bars of soap and the shampoo everyone loves. No, I'm talking phones, Bibles, radios, hair dryers, TVs, hangers, and anything that isn't bolted down and stays down. Next time you go to take a nice pillow or shampoo, I'd think twice if I where you.

Blog Assignment #10 George Muller

              George Muller


            On September 27, 1805 Johann Georg Ferdinand Muller, or George Muller, was born. When he was about 14 his mother died while he was off drinking and playing cards with near by friends. With his fathers help he became a Christian and stopped stealing, lying, and drinking. He began going to church regularly and began meeting with several other churches. He was a Christian evangelist and the owner of Ashley Down orphanage in England. He cared for nearly 10,000 orphans in his life and was known for bringing education to them. He opened about 117 schools for about 120,000 children, many of which orphans. Of course his school also provided Christian education. 


           In 1823 he moved to England to work with a chapel/church. By the end of February 1835, he had opened five days schools, in which two for boys and the other three for girls. He did not start working with orphans till around 1836, but by 1870 nearly 1,722 children were under his and his wife's care. Shortly after his first wife died in 1781, in 1875 he became an evangelist for all around the world. One of my favorite quotes of his is, "A servant of God has but one Master." Another one of his great quotes is when is said, "The less we read the word of God, the less we desire to read it, and the less we pray to God, the less we desire to pray."


         I'd say that George live a full and happy life for God. I  think he did a great thing with taking in orphans, letting them go to school, and teaching them Christian ways. Through his faith in God he over came every challenge life threw, which as Christians we can learn from that. He was once in France on a missionary trip, but shortly he came home and was ill. Later in England at age 92 on March 10,1898 he died. From an outside view, I'd say he took great care of his orphans and lived a good life.

Blog assignment #9 Space Camp @ NASA

                           About NASA Space Camp       

     NASA's Camp Kennedy Space center was created for kids up to ninth grade. Throughout this week long summer program they will learn what it is like to  be astronaut. The camp helps kids look inside a rocket, learn about rockers, learn about astronauts and talk to a real astronaut. Their specially trained teachers and astronauts help answer the kids questions and tell them what they need to know. It first started in Alabama, but became so popular it moved to Florida.

         During there week at camp the kids will feel what it is like going in a rocket, design there own little rocket thing,  meet and talk with an astronaut, and preform a space mission. The pay is $295 dollars per week, with that much money they better learn something, and must be paid before hand. For every twelve kids they have a camp leader, so they must know how many kids will show up. Drop offs are as early as 7:30 AM. It is for all kids interested in space like stuff. 
        
          The kids, ages 8-14, will go into a real rocket ship. Inside the rocket ship they will be showed what the buttons are by a real astronaut.  Also on top of the $295 dollars weekly fee there is also a $50 dollar sign up fee. Before you pay the $50 dollars it would be best to make sure your kid(s) want to go, because the $50 is non refundable.  If your child is not in the 7-14 range and you pay the $50 dollars they will be denied and you will be out of $50 bucks.


       If you would like to chaperon it cost $64 dollars, for a grand total of like $390 dollars.  It may seem like a colossal amount, but if your child likes it, it's worth it.  If your child planes on being an astronaut this would be the perfect opportunity for them to know how ruff the job really is. It will also will show them being an astronaut is not all about having a fish like bowl on your head, and having a cool sparkly suite outfit.  Many of the kids who go through the camp have said they learned about the endurance and training you need to be an astronaut.

   To conclude this all up I'd like to say it looks like a pretty cool summer camp thing. It is just about as expensive as enjoyable. They have all kinds of fun hands on experiences. I think it would be pretty fun and a great learning experience. As a last conclusion i think I should mention the over 50,000 other kids who went and enjoyed it.

     Harper Collin is one of the leading publishers out there, and currently located at 10 East 53rd Street New York, New York. They have many award winning books and are the publishers of the hard to put down Pretty Little Liars series. They publish teen award winning books that are such as immortal stuff, troubled teens, day to day situations, fiction, and more. They have numerous amounts of famous others such as  Meg Cabot, Walter Dean Myers, Chris Crutcher, Joyce Carol Oates, and many others.  Their top selling books right now are the Vampire Diary's series by L. J. Smith.  The site didn't say who long they have been in, but when  say what type of books they had and when they came out, they may have been publishing from five to ten years, maybe even more.

     Random House publishing was started in 1998 by Bertelsmann and is the world's largest trade publishers. They have been publishing books for a little over twelve years. They also are one of the leading and largest publications for young readers everywhere. They are currently located in 1745 Broadway, New York, New York. They have published many award winning books including When You Reach Me, Hoot, Bud Not Buddy, Holes, The Watsons Go to Birmingham--1963, and many many more. They publish books they think will be award winning and do not go for anything less.

4)Where- The local is unknown, but the pictures come from different places.

5)Why- This Website was started for inspiration for photographers and a place for them to put their work up for the enjoyment of other people.

6)How-  Photographers send their work to the creator and then if they like it they post it.

2)What- It is a website to post videos and pictures of the worl around us.

3)When- It didn't say when it was made but it said it was last updated June 26, 2009, so many several years old, even four or five at the most.
